Will apps with this setting still work on Panther? Presumably it will just be ignored?

However I notice that in Tiger, Mail and XCode, and probably some other native applications, appear to have a new style window texture for the background of the toolbar that causes the toolbar to merge into the title bar. How is this accomplished?
