Actually, I think some of the posters are approaching this from the opposite direction. They're not talking about a standalone server with a management interface. They're talking about an end-user application that incorporates a server. Consider iChat with Bonjour messaging, iTunes with Shared Music, any application controllable via an AppleEvent (AppleScript) interface...
