Yeah, intercepting hot keys is one of the considerations, mouse
gesture is another. I am also looking for a way to send foreground
text / image / video content to a background process. Any idea would
be greatly appreciated.

I may have some other suggestions, but please explain what you want
to do. Are you perhaps just looking for a way to intercept hotkeys
to trigger a function in your app while it is in the background?
For that there is a hotkeys API in the carbon events.
