Hello,

I used the Disk Utility under Tiger to make a disk image of some
files. However, this disk image will not verify the checksum when
it is opened with Disk Copy under Mac OS 10.1 or 10.2.
I use a simple shell script (wrapped in a drag-n-droppable
AppleScript) to create disk images on Mac OS X 10.4.
The shell script invokes hdiutil, passing appropriate parameters to
indicate the folder which should be used as the source, the
compression level etc.
The man-page for "hdiutil" states there are also options to ensure
backward compatibility with Jaguar and Puma.
See <x-man-page://hdiutil>
I don't have a Puma or Jaguar system at hand, but I'm quite sure at
least 10.2.x systems were able to open the created disk images -- at
least this was true the last time I checked, which might have been at
Panther times, though...
Feel free to use my script as a starting point, you can download it
here:

CreateDiskImage.dmg>
Of course, the disk image containing the script is created by the
script itself, so you could use this to test already if it opens
properly on pre-Panther systems... ;-]

Dirk Stegemann
