Info.plist file type assocs etc

Hi,

I am having real problems trying to associate a file type with an App, via the Info.plist.

I have had all sorts of oddities occur including right icon/wrong app, no association at all, and even an ancient version of the app from the trash being used!

Sometimes you have to run the app before the association 'takes', sometimes drag it around here and there but, oddly, it never seems to work no matter what I do after installing it from a package maker package.

I looked around the net and found the 'lsregister' hack that apparently resets the launch services, but have had limited to success with it (It worked once or twice but doesn't seem to do anything now).

Really at my wits end here - is there any way to do this programmatically?

And on a related note: I associated the doc type with XCode way back but can't find any way to undo this association.

I am running OS10.3.9 with all the latest updates.

Mark
