I hope for your sake that you don't need to worry about recurring
events, since Sync Services cannot take care of this for you. You
would need to write your own code for this, and they can be
complicated ("second Sunday of every other month in 2006, 2008,
2009," for example).
I'm working on a framework that will "expand" recurring iCal events
for you, but I'm really busy and it won't be ready for a while. If
others would find this useful, please nag me and I may finish it
faster. ;-)

You should have a look at this document:

A way would be to import iCal calendars to your app, process them and
export them to iCal by replacing or creating a new calendar if needed.

I am writing Electronic Medical Record software for a small private

meetings, etc, is there any way to import or connect to that data
into my application?
