Two observations:

1. In a little test project, I can confirm that validation
   is indeed performed on insertion.  (So I must be doing
   something wrong at some place in my code...)

2. In my code, even Core-Data constraints are not respected
   when the object is first inserted and saved (i.e., if I
   set the "minimal value" of an attribute to 10 in the
   Core-Data modeller in Xcode and the "default value" to 0
   then I *can* save).

Any idea what this could be?
