Hi!
With the fact that Apple is switching to Intel, we'll possibly see
Macs become more attractive to users since they'll probably become
less expensive. I'm sure a lot of people would be happy to switch
if it wasn't for the steeper price.
I recently did a app porting from PC to Mac and I guess that more
and more software companies would or will be interested in offering
their products for Mac users. I guess there's a market for porting
(there's one for games anyway, look at Beenox) from PC to Mac and
I'm considering offering my services as such. What do you guys
think? Is there a market for porting?
There has been a market for porting since the Mac first shipped. It's
always been there.
Just because there a company has a Mac version of their Windows
product does not mean that they have any Mac developers on staff and
did the port themselves. It's quite common for companies to farm out
the Mac work to contractors. I would guess a large percentage of Mac
software is in fact not written or maintained by the company that
actually owns it, based on porting work I've done over the last six
years.
