The autoresizing behavior of my view seems to be appropriate as long as I don't make the split view *too* small. Once my embedded table view completely disappears from view, it will redraw incorrectly when I expose it again.

I subclassed my NSSplitViews with KFSplitView from Ken Ferry, and most all of my split view problems went away. I also gained some extra functionality for free. For example, the window remembering and restoring the positions of the dividers.
