A good book for learning C is "C by Discovery"
I would walk through that to get the basics of C. Then Cocoa
Programing for Dummies. The Dummies books are great. I tried the
O'Reilly book but since I am new to OOP it went over my head. The
Dummies book explained it all in layman's terms.
