So I can create the window. Can I do anything else with it was my question. This is too vague as it is. What do they mean by "create a window"? Does that mean that I can allocate the memory for it or that I may initialize it? How about order it front? This doesn't tell me anything.

I have to agree with you. Vague documentation is almost worse than no documentation... File a bug report on the documentation, and ask for it to be made more explicit and precise. In my experience, the documentation department is really exceptionally good at responding to enhancement requests. It makes sense, changing the documentation is easier than changing the implementation.

I could spend hours filing documentation enhancement requests for APIs that have existed for as long as OS X. Perhaps I should. I find that to have an effective bug report, it takes a fairly long period of time. Perhaps enhancement requests for documentation don't need to follow their hyper-rigid formatting.

As for the archive, I'm not sure if you've tried searching for "Thread" before but every e-mail in the archive contains:
[ Date Prev ][ Date Next ][ Thread Prev ][ Thread Next ][ Date Index ][ Thread Index ]

I always use the insanely great Cocoabuilder archives. Try them out if you haven't already!

Oh wow, that really is a lot better. I have used it before, but it's been several years and I had forgotten completely about it. If only there was one of these for all of apple's lists!

I wonder if someone should file an enhancement request to make searching their lists as good as this.

I was hoping for something a little more specific like, "You can alloc and init the window in a second thread but everything else has to be done from the main thread."

That's how I would interpret it.

Okay, then that is how I shall proceed.

I hesitate to say this because it sounds ungrateful and I'm actually quite grateful that you've taken the time to respond but I've seen other developers on this list become upset over this so: please don't automatically assume that I haven't read the documentation or searched the archives.

An unfortunate misunderstanding. To avoid repeating it, perhaps you should give some sort of hint about that next time around? The better you are at asking questions, the better answers you will get back. Including information on what you've tried so far, and what documentation you've consulted, is a good thing.

Good advice. I shall endeavor to do so in the future.
