I've posted the project I am having problems. It's bare bones, as I
was just experimenting.

I have a category, StartupShudown with an awakeFromNib method. In
that is the only line of code I've added, and this causes the project
not to build.

Something is occurring in what is being copied or linked, as the
framework does natively support both archs. Could you post either
the project (or if sensitive, a sample project) to look at?
