these changes did indeed work. that has got to be one of the most annoying
undocumented features ever ;)
thank you for your help. i know it took a while to get across what i was
doing but the result was successful.

p.s. if you have the contacts, they should release an updated version of
that example to show how you can use kv(o|b) with it. would be very helpful.
