Please file a documentation enhancement request...

p.s. if you have the contacts, they should release an updated version of
that example to show how you can use kv(o|b) with it. would be very helpful.

(Hamish, this is an update to the version I sent earlier -- it uses infoForBinding instead of instance variables, and has preliminary support for a binding for the clock face image.)
