If you mean the dock icon, then yes :)
One possible problem I can think of is that you can set iPhoto to
leave files you add to its library where they are. So, for some
users, the photo would not be copied out of its original location.
If however, you save it somewhere sensible to start with though, this
should work fine.

If you only need a really simple adding behavior, you could save
the photo somewhere temporary (like your app support folder) and
then ask iPhoto to open it using NSWorkspace. That should do the
