On the other hand, if the user does have iPhoto set to copy the files
the user will have additional copies of the photo's roaming around his
harddrive, in which case you should be sure to remove all temporary
copies.

One possible problem I can think of is that you can set iPhoto to
leave files you add to its library where they are. So, for some
users, the photo would not be copied out of its original location. If
however, you save it somewhere sensible to start with though, this
should work fine.

If you only need a really simple adding behavior, you could save the
photo somewhere temporary (like your app support folder) and then
ask iPhoto to open it using NSWorkspace. That should do the trick.
