I'm not sure what you're doing wrong exactly, but I've had no problem
debugging our apps with the following argument for Japanese:
-AppleLanguages "<array><string>ja</string></array>"
I set this in the Info panel for the executable in XCode.

Hi all,
how to debug an application under XCode with gdb and setting the
application language.
If i add the argument, GDB don't start and say :
**The argument (in Executable Info window)
-AppleLanguages ("English")
**The XCode error message :
Error Starting Executable
Check its arguments and the debugger console.
** The gdb output :
Loading program into debugger…
tty /dev/ttyp2
Program loaded.
sharedlibrary apply-load-rules all
run
[Switching to process 7677 local thread 0xf03]
zsh: missing end of name
It runs fine out of gdb.
thanks for your help,
Xavier
