I'd agree that most of the time you'd let the user make this
descision. However this app is for scheduled presentation of video. A
calendar view is used to schedule video playback on a second display
( a projector ). The audio accompanying the video is played through
an amp then speakers. To stop other application audio being audible
during the presentation there are a number of options.
1)Rely on the User not doing something else on the main display and
making a noise. This is unsatisfactory and application like iCal may
have a sound alarm set.
2)Block all other audio for other applications.
3)Attach another audio device and only play the audio through this.
Relying on the User not setting this as the default device for other
apps.
I think option 3 is best though I'd still be interested if option 2
is possible.

Hello,
I've a cocoa application which outputs audio. I'd like block
other applications audio while this application is running.
Wouldn't this seriously annoy the Users? Most times, they can
manage to make such decisions by themselves.
