Combining MP3s into a single track

Got a question - anyone who's familiar with either quicktime or core audio (or both), what is the easiest way for me to combine and save several audio files into one? Basically I have an app that has some mp3s and I want to be able to combine them (one after the other, not one on top of the other) to create an new mp3 and/or aiff. Much of the new track will consist of silence, so I was thinking, just make a 1 minute silent mp3 and use that as many times as needed, but if there's an easier way to do that too please tell me. Thanks,
william
