That'll work but you'll need to either have the app 'blessed' to use the Accessibility APIs, which can be a pain, or you'll need to have the user explicitly allow access through the control panel.
You can use CGPostKeyboardEvent to jam a Command-P into the event stream though and that'll trigger a Paste in the target app. Assuming you've made sure target app is key first.
