Indeed, this does not seem to work for me either. Thank you for pointing out this problem so that I can avoid it (and Apple can fix it or tell us about some magical values to put in the Info.plist).



There have been some bugs about recognition of spellcheckers with Info.plist declarations that don't match the pattern of AppleSpell; for example, I think that the port name has to be present. I believe we have Radar reports for these, but feel free to file one if you run into difficulties.
