It honestly really annoys me when developers go out of the way to make
their application as non uniform as possible. Adobe and Microsoft seem
to be the two biggest commercial offenders of this... But I think
generally applications should match the other applications on a user's
computer. The Aqua GUI widgets we've had to deal with probably do
deserve some of the blame. Brushed metal and Aqua pinstripes aren't
very attractive for a lot of applications, an as you can see from the
screenshots that Apple has released of 10.5, both those things seem to
be gone. But honestly, whether you are Apple or a shareware developer,
I don't feel you should be doing some of this crazy custom GUI stuff I
see every so often where the close/minimize/maximize widgets have been
changed for some reason, or someone decides to draw grey borders
around all their windows.
AppleTV and Front Row are full screen apps, so I'm fine with whatever
they decide to do. They aren't interacting with other apps on the
screen at the same time.
It will be interesting to see whether or not CoreAnimation will end up
bringing better UI's to Mac OS X, or if it will just bring more
inconsistency to Mac apps.
(Apologies for the bordering dangerously on off topic post.)

Hi Everyone.
I am a developer who is interested in the user interface very much.
I bought an AppleTV recently and am deeply fascinated by the elegant
interface.
Both the AppleTV and FrontRow operation interfaces are the
masterpiece of Apple, so I am thinking whether we can adopt some GUI
elements from them. For example, the crystal-glass-like button in
the FrontRow and the blue fluorescence button of AppleTV.
My idea is coming from some well-unknown third-party frameworks
which can create stunning GUI for your cocoa application. So maybe
it is possible to realize it.
Maybe this question will violate some agreements of Apple, if so, I
will never ask it again. And if someone here know some interesting
third-party GUI framework, would you please share it with us?
Thank you in advanced. Cheers.
