I want to allow the user to set a default file that will open automatically when the program loads, similar to the method "applicationShouldOpenUntitledFile:", but with a predefined filename. Is their similar method that will accomplish this or any other way??

You could implement -applicationWillFinishLaunching: or - applicationDidFinishLaunching: in your application delegate.
