My main concern is that the file size of the database

Also, is my idea even practical? I'd like the database
to be searchable. But would it just take too long to
search through 10,000 words?

If I'm understanding Core Data correctly, I can have
either an SQLite or XML database. Which is faster?

It really depends on how you do the searching, but 10,000 rows isn't that much at all for SQLite or Core Data.

SQLite is definitely better for this than XML.
