Managed Object states for tab view

Ideally a document for my application allows for
multiple states to be captured and stored as part of
that document, limited perhaps by number.
As the NSPersistentDocument is responsible for
generating the managedObjectContext within a
document-based application, is it possible to
duplicate a ManagedObjectModel and add it to the
context.
My understanding of this procedure through reading the
Core Data programming guide is that only a reference
is created, whereas
I need a new instance of the Model based on the state
of the current one, so to speak.
I hope this makes sense.
Each time I hit new tab in my GUI the current view
gets duplicated in a new tab basically, and one can
effectively tab through historically, but also have
the option to modify each of those histories as though
it were the current context.
Thanks.
