This is totally a wild guess, but LaTeX/TeX is a kind of word
processing system that allows this and there is a tool that converts
these documents into RTF. Therefore, I'm wondering if RTF can support
the display of math formulae. If so, and if Cocoa supports RTF text
controls, this might be something to look into.
