Like him or loathe him, Linus Torvalds knows what he likes and loathes and why he likes and loathes. This page contains a link to a very informative video of Linus talking about GIT and why he uses it. There are a lot of comments and they are all over the place which tells me that the everyone has a different problem and a different solution:
