Many of you are probably familiar with subversion. Some of you
might actually use it. I did too, until another SCM system named
git was mentioned to me by a friend. I started liking it almost
from the very start, and my opinion of it quickly soared past my
opinion of subversion.
This isn't Cocoa specific. Worse, it's an advocacy thread, and
spends considerable time criticising a bit of software that a lot of
people (me included) quite like. I know I don't agree with many of
your remarks below (and I think some of them are plain wrong), but I
also know that most of the people reading this list won't care what
you *or* I think about source control.
I will add though that personally, if I were you, I'd stick to CVS or
(preferably) Subversion for Open Source projects. I think having to
install and use an unfamiliar SCM like git (or BitKeeper, which also
had a licensing problem for some people---me amongst them) will put
people off, particularly if they just want to make a small
contribution like a simple bug fix.
Kind regards,
Alastair.
