I want to try and highlight the active window / application. I was going to do this by displaying a plain semi transparent window the same size as the screen behind the active application.

This is probably possible, but why are you trying to do this? Usually if you are trying to do something outside the norm, it is best to explain why, in case your specific issue can be solved in a different or better way.

I am very new to mac programming (I was a Java programmer) so please go easy on me!

I want to create an application that has a window that always stays one level below either the topmost window of the active application or below all windows of the active application (even when the active application changes).

Is this possible? If so, any pointers in the right direction would be great.

Thanks,
Jason North
