If I have a reference to @"~/Pictures" in my application, then do I need to localize this or use a method that returns the correct name for that folder?

I do not need to present the path name to the user, but I do need to store things at that location. I suspect that under the hood the folder is really called "Pictures" and there is some localization done by the Finder to make it show as the localized form, but I cannot find confirmation of that.
