Where did you read this? It's not true, I do it all the time.

An issue you will have to be aware of, is that when the machine wakes
up again, it'll have lost the connection to the SMB mounts and may
take a bit to figure it out and force the user to disconnect them.
Make sure your application handles this gracefully.
