Hey Jon,

That was just an example. I was thinking about proper tagging (instead of just genres) and even more low-level modifications.
Both applications (iTunes and iPhoto) are so limited - it physically hurts :)

For importing sound file formats to iTunes, you might be able to go through QuickTime. If QuickTime can open a file, iTunes ought to be able to.
