Is there enough up-to-date information in the iWork programming guide <http://developer.apple.com/documentation/AppleApplications/ Conceptual/iWork2-0_XML/iWork2-0_XML.pdf> about the xml schema for APXL to allow this?

Has anyone written a keynote viewer that parses apxl?

I've seen the previous thread on a keynote viewer, public apis for keynote file manipulations (and 'quick look' capabilities).

In your research, did you find the back-n-forth regarding the format and Apple engineering's lack of cohesion? Essentially, it's not open anymore, nor does it follow the previous spec. There's a lot of friction about that.

There is a QuickLook directory in Keynote file bundle (produced by keynote 4.01) but that is a single thumbnail JPG of the first slide,

Right, and those are low-res anyway.

I am interested in what the current take (post iwork 08) is on independent keynote development and 'open' access to the file specs.

My research regarding this last year yielded nothing. Currently, I'm contracted by a company that manipulates Keynote data post/pre presentation. All of our work uses Keynote's import/export functions and AppleEvents. It's a shame. An Open Standard would be super cool.

good luck, let me know if you find anything,
