I've posted the source for a custom view which roughly simulates the Finder icon view:

It's pretty basic and is missing a few things, but it's a good headstart if you need this sort of thing. The good news class is tiny and there are tons of comments, so it should be easy to customize. It has basic Cocoa Bindings support, as well.
