particularly question 15 in the FAQ. Note the caveat about "demand
power change" situations.
In other words, ultimately, the user has the final say. If they close
the lid of their MacBook, the system _will_ go into sleep and your app
can't stop it.
So, the techniques in that technote may be sufficient for your app, or
you may need to rethink the requirements of your app.
