I uninstalled LCC, restarted and ran my code - and it just works!

Wow, that sure was the fix!

I won't be using LCC anymore.

Bingo. Get rid of LCC Scroll Enhancer. It's a known cause of a variety of crashes in Leopard, this being one of them.
