custom toolbar item autoresizing?

Hello all,

I have a custom view in an NSToolbar. I would like this item to expand as much as possible, similar to NSToolbarFlexibleSpaceItemIdentifier, or similar to the address bar in Safari.

I was hoping that setting the min and max size on the NSToolbarItem would cause this to happen, but it does not.

Is there some trick to this?
