Thanks. NSMakeCollectable looks useful. I tried:
NSLog (@"machine %@", NSMakeCollectable (SCDynamicStoreCopyLocalHostName (NULL)));
But it gets a warning and signal EXC_BAD_ACCESS. I'm still thinking 64-bit issue.
