And each active network interface will have a different hostname, just as it has a different IP address. So I might simultaneously be “jens.foocorp.com” on Ethernet where I have a static address, and “guest-e3f6.wifi.foocorp.com” on the public WiFi network.

Getting a hostname for the computer you’re on is not usually very useful.
