mouseDown in NSSegmentedControl

I have sub-classed NSSegmentedControl and set this class to the NSSegmentedControl in IB.

I have implemented mouseDown in the sub-class thinking I would get these events.  I do not.

How does one get mouseDown in an NSSegmentedControl?
