Finder and Trash are hardcoded into the Dock. If you examine ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Dock.plist (for example, with the Terminal command: defaults read com.apple.Dock ) you'll notice that Finder is not listed where expected under persistent-apps, nor Trash where expected under persistent-others._______________________________________________
