This is true, and is why it is preferable to avoid type collisions in the first place. But in the event that a type collision *does* occur, it would be nice for LS to leave its options open so that both possible apps will at least show up in the “Open With” context menu, and will both accept the files when you drag them onto their dock icons. If the icon’s wrong, at least you can get it to *work*.
