That exact point is an issue I have with a fair amount of iOS related problems, like the "build to device crash issue if a distribution profile is selected for the Debug Code Signing Identity" that I had recently.
For obscure problems, the information may be out there, but it's nearly impossible to find. Mostly the solution appears that you have to get your question in front of the right person who has already suffered through the issue you have, as opposed to immediately knowing the specific set of docs to go to to answer your question.
