No OS level color management on Unix (at least until OS X <G>)... so it needs
to be built into your applications. Typically (if there is any calibration
at all) monitors are set to a standard preset state, then a profile of that
state is built without calibration, and that profile applied in the
application (same way Photoshop does it under NT4). DataColor's Colorite
software is the most common application for color management in the fabric
industry, including fabric design CAD systems.
