The Lino Saphir Ultra is really 3.0? I used to have one. The Umax line of
hardware has a lot of noise in the shadows.
It's true that the Scitex Supreme scans to it's max black with very little
apparent noise. The scans tests that I have done on the Scitex line were all
good certainly exceptional on the Supreme.
Back to Colorsync and the inter-related compliant ICC aware acquisition
software. I've noticed huge differences in apparent noise depending on the
profile (source) used and say uncalibrated scans. The uncalibrated scans
have much better shadow separation and tonal graduation but more noise. Is
this apparent noise being masked in clipping the base densities with the
profiles in question( ScanOpen+ProfileMaker)?
