Jeff, I own the predecessor, the Microtek Scanmaker 5. The Microtek Scanner
Profiler with Kodak Q60 target are very nice and easy to use. I don't think
the U.S. version of Microtek has ever been packaged with Silverfast; you may
look at European sources, such as Robert White in England, from whom I
believe you can purchase a Microtek at a good price and obtain the
Silverfast software included.
The Scanamker 5 (same hardware as the original Agfa DuoScan, different
software) is a great scanner for the price (I paid $1500 about a year ago).
It has a claimed DMAX of 3.5. That's a tad exaggerated, but not by too
much. I expect the 1100 would be that much better.
I scan mostly 6 x 9 cm transparencies and get great results. The holders
are perfectly designed for the 6 x 9 format, not as well designed for other
medium formats. I've seen people modify the holders a bit for other medium
format sizes and get very good results. There are very nice 4 x 5 and 35 mm
slide holders as well. 35 mm scans are good, but the resolution is not high
enough to do much with the scans other than to put them on the web.
<<Jeff Harmon asked:
Anyone know if Microtek's claim that their ArtixScan 1100 scanner has a dMax
of 3.9 is full of hot air?
Pretty amazing for such an inexpensive flatbed scanner if it's true. I'm on
the verge of buying one, and hoping the color management and driver for it
will be flexible. It doesn't appear to be packaged with SilverFast anymore.
Anyone have experience with the driver (Microtek ScanWizard Pro with Kodak
Digital Science color management software (integrated)) it uses? Howz about
the Microtek Scanner Profiler and Kodak Q60 target?>>
