get back something I can deliver to my clients (typically industrial,
corporate portraits, and some PR photography). ICC profiling seems to promise
this ability. >>
As a photographer who shares many of your concerns, let me prepare you for
reality. No matter how dedicated you are in making calibrating and profiling
work on your end, if the lab isn't doing the same on their end "It ain't
goining to work". Even if you GAVE them your perfect profiles, if they don't
keep their wet process tightly in tolerance, expect color shifts. So, it
really boils down to the lab's consistency as well as yours, if it's going to
happen.
And when you say "the labs I output to don't use an ICC profile workflow",
there really is little hope for high expectations.
