Well, I guess the direct answer would be at the beginning of your workflow.
I have primarily used my profiles when using the camera in the studio under
controlled lighting conditions, but have also found that images taken outside
have been noticably improved by the use of an input profile.
I have to qualify this by saying that this works for me with "older" CCD
generation cameras. I have also tried to profile a Nikon D1 and found that
the results were better without applying an input profile to the working
space. I think you have advocated this technique, and I have to say it works
well for the "newer" type CCD cameras.
So I am still encouraging owners of 3 to 4 year old digital cameras who have
not tried using input profiles to give it a go.
