Yes, you will lose all but 256 of your many thousands of levels of data in
the file. Whether this will be distinguishable in the final output is
questionable... but given the huge size of the Kadak RGB space, it may lead
to posterization in the pastels.

Then why are you using an RGB space the size of Alaska, if you images aren't
bright? The trade off is that in 8 bit this space will posterize subtle
pastels, and it will be larger than you need and not even close to monitor
representation on the more saturated colors. So if you convert to 8 bit
within this workingspace you are damaging your in-gamut colors, on order to
maintain edge-of-gamut colors that don't exist. Using AdobeRGb would be
preferable...
