If you are using PhotoCal with the Apple Studio Display:

Sound Control Panel.

) Set Brightness to 50%.
) Click the Color button at the upper-right of the Monitors & Sound
Control Panel.
) Select 6500 from the White Point menu.
) Select 1.8 from the Gamma menu.
) Select None from the Ambient Light menu.
) Click Preferences.
) Set Calibration Accuracy to Pro.
) Mark the checkbox to disable Brightness and Contrast controls.
) Click OK.
) Click Recalibrate.
) After ColorSync has calibrated the monitor:
) Click the Calibrate
button at the lower-left of the ColorSync
profiles list.
) Click on PhotoCal in the list of available calibration plug-ins
then click OK.
) Follow the onscreen instructions and the following suggestions:

This works - I have done it multiple times for clients. I should
note that I have sold the Spyder and mc7 into these clients where
they bought the ColorSync monitor only to be confused by color
management (no surprise) and a little disappointed in the results of
the automated calibration etc of the displays. As I mentioned
before, I tell them that the calibration is OK they just need better
profiles. Enter a colorimeter and the above procedure and we've been
good to go.
Thanks Steve, I'll give it a shot. I can't understand what's up with
the 50% brightness though. Why would that matter, and what if it
turns out too dark? Most monitors need to be set higher than 50%. In
the past, I've calibrated with the Apple software, then calibrated on
top of that with Photocal. Seems the same except the brightness thing.
